Type Day
The Type Day project was an exploration into a font of choice. The goal was to research your chosen font, in this case DIN and discover why it was created, what purpose it served and to outline a timeline of the evolution and usage for the font.
The design brief required a double-sided celebratory card to showcase a logotype using the chosen font, and the back was a paragraph created with the research and information gathered about the font.

A logotype had to be made using a sketch to production process and the final design needed to be applied with an analog medium. The paragraph of research on the back needed to be visually cohesive with the logotype design. The logotype was applied with a two layer process. the first layer was printer and the second layer was applied using a stencil and spray paint as it relates to the original use of DIN as a railway freight numbering system that was stenciled onto the freight cars.

Through my research, I learned that DIN had been reborn and used as a modern, sleek and elegant font that has been used in the Fashion and Technology industries. This concept was used to create the paragraph on the backside of the card.
This project taught me that a font can be created for a specific purpose but can evolve into completely different style application and live on past its original purpose.
